Are you in the mood for an eco-adventure in Palawan? Do you want to take a break from the busy streets of the city? For nature, outdoor and fitness enthusiasts, this is the perfect adventure for you. Palawan Ecological Adventure Trail (PEAT) is a one-of-a-kind trekking experience in Palawan.

The full 27.9km trail takes two days and one night to trek, starting from Barangay Irawan to Barangay Simpocan. The trail is a community based sustainable tourism project and was established in 2015 by Delta P, Inc., an independent power producer in Palawan, and Palawan Conservation Corps (PCC), a non-profit organization dedicated to community development and sustainability.

The day-to-day management of the trail is handled by PCC, along with the Simpocan-Irawan Eco-tourism Adventure Community (SIEACA). PEAT is also one of the community-based sustainable tourism (CBST) sites that The Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PCFI) is supporting.

In deciding what kind of trekking adventure suits you, PEAT offers two options: you can book the day trip package which includes a trip to a waterfall in Barangay Irawan or the overnight trek package which includes an overnight trek to the summit of Mt. Beaufort.

Either way, you can enjoy and experience Palawan’s natural attractions. The trail also passes through the Palawan Ecological Adventure Tree or most commonly known as the “Mother Tree”, a 100 year-old Ipil tree.

The tree is as high as 60 to 80 feet, and you can imagine how big it is because it takes eight people to surround the tree, arm-stretched. During the trek, you will be accompanied by local guides to ensure safety and you can also hire porters to assist you with your camping bags or equipment. Things you might need to bring along:

• Water. Bring lots and lots of water. Hiking means continually hydrating.

• Snacks. Fuel yourself with snacks. You can pack sandwiches or just bring grab-and-go snacks such as chocolate bars or granola bars.

• Insect repellents. The trail is located in the middle of the forest so you will be exposed to different kinds of insects such as mosquitoes.

• If you are in for the overnight trek, they will provide you with tents and sleeping mats but if you want to feel more warm and comfortable, bring your own blanket or sleeping bag.

Double-check if you’ve already brought with you the necessities. Prepare for an unforgettable trip at Palawan Ecological Adventure Trail and ask your thrill-seeking selves: “Are you ready for an adventure?”
