Palawan State University student representatives participated and received awards during the recently concluded ASEAN Student Forum held at Perak, Malaysia. Various delegates from the ten ASEAN countries along with South Korea, Japan, and China including the Philippines actively took part the four-day international event with the theme, “Global Citizenship.”
Six participants from the Palawan State University include the University Student Government President Elijah Daniel Geanga, USG Vice President Raymond Baldelovar, USG Executive Secretary Walter O’Neil de Leon, USG Senator Ryle Crisha Pe, College of Arts and Humanities – CSG Governor Zhandee Sophia Valledor, and College of Sciences – CSG Governor Arriane Kaye Jagmis attended the forum.
The event is to tackle on the task of creating a platform of discussion concerning the ASEAN Integration Initiative and the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Cooperation that will boost ties between the students and the nations regarding the objectives of empowering ASEAN students and youth to provide resolutions on the issues of ASEAN community.
The forum took on five topics on Global Citizenship, the ASEAN Youth and Urban Poverty, Youth Green and Technology, Youth and Public Accountability, Youth and Sustainable Micro, Small, Medium, Enterprises, and Youth and Energy Security. According to Mr. Geanga, their participation could help boost in showcasing the leadership and intellectual capabilities of the Palawan State University student leaders.
“I strongly believe that it was a great platform for us to showcase our students with great leadership and intellectual capabilities to the rest of the ASEAN community and as the world is becoming increasingly globalized, it was a great platform for the ASEAN and East Asian students to share our experiences, knowledge, and ideas in addressing current issues faced by the ASEAN and East Asian community,” Mr. Geanga said.
The delegates worked hand in hand and collaborated to come up with ideas to resolve matters concerning the ASEAN countries and help even those beyond like the South Korea, Japan, and China. The delegates strongly committed themselves to change and encourage the youth to be involved in not just in social causes but also practical engagements that will raise their political, environmental, and economical awareness. The participants believed these are necessary in building and establishing a steady and full-bodied society.
On the last day of the forum, two of the five Outstanding Delegate Awards were given to the PSU student leaders Elijah Daniel Geanga and Raymond Baldelovar from the Youth and Energy Security sector.
Mr. Geanga said after receiving the award, “I am really pleased, humbled, and honored to receive the award and to join the other delegates from the ASEAN Plus Three countries that I have admired and respected in sharing their experiences, knowledge, and ideas in addressing current issues faced by the ASEAN and East Asian community.
Very special thanks to the Malaysian Minister of Education and University Teknologi Petronas for giving me such a distinguished award. Most importantly, I am really proud that I have shown to the whole ASEAN Plus South Korea, Japan, and China that the student leaders from our country are fully equipped with leadership qualities.”
