Five fifth year Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering students of Palawan State University (PSU) main campus won third place in the Petrobowl Asia Pacific Regional Qualifiers 2019 that was held in Trisakti University, Jakarta, Indonesia on June 28 -30.
Bandung Institute of Technology from Indonesia won first place. Winning second place is China University of Petroleum of East China followed by Palawan State University of the Philippines. Hitting fourth place is China University of Petroleum from Beijing and landing fifth is the Universiti Teknologi Petronas from Malaysia.
All five teams are qualified and will represent the Asia Pacific Region in the Petrobowl Championships in Calbary, Alberta, Canada on September 30 to October 2, where they will compete against representatives from Africa, Europe, Middle East, North America, and South America and Caribbean.
The team was among the 16 teams that competed from Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and China.
Batangas State University and PSU are the two teams that represented the country in the qualifiers.
The students who competed under PSU’s banner were: Raymond Baldelovar, Jerrah Yvonne Cabate, Jonbon Francis Baguio, Carl Soriano, Jarvey Libiran.
According to the team, they didn’t expect that they will be able to land third in the qualifiers.
“Our team didn’t really expect to land a place in the Regional Qualifiers due to lack of proper preparation but, by God’s Grace, we managed to turn the odds to our favor,” said the team in an exclusive phone interview with Palawan Daily News.
The team was honored to represent the country and the Asia Pacific Region in the Championships.
“It will be our honor to represent the Philippines and the Asia Pacific in the world championships,” they added.
The PSU team is asking for support for their road to championships in Canada.
“We look forward for a great competition, but we cannot continue this without the support of many people. This is an opportunity that does not come very often and we need all the support we can get to continue fighting,” they said.
