Multiple government agencies will offer their services during the Job Fair and Livelihood Summit in Western Philippines University (WPU) Campus Gymnasium on May 1, 2019, from 8 AM to 5 PM in celebration of the 117th Labor Day.
This was announced during a Press Conference in Puerto Princesa City Hall on April 29, 2019, which was attended by representatives from different government agencies who explained their roles for the upcoming job fair.
These government agencies are: Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Social Security System (SSS), Pagtutulungan sa Kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industria at Gobyerno (Pag-IBIG), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and Department of Trade and Industries (DTI).
“Ito po ay collaboration ng mga iba’t-ibang ahensiya na kung saan nais nating ipakita rin, iparamdam sa Palaweño na ang iba’t-ibang ahensiya ay handang magsamasama para sa iisang layunin, handang magsamasama upang ang serbisyo ay mas lalong mas maipaabot sa mga mamamayan,” said Luis Evangelista, Chief Labor and Employment Officer of DOLE.
DOLE spearheads the activity inviting various establishments, through the identification of PESIO, to attend the job fair and open possible jobs for the applicants especially with the great number of graduates from the host, WPU. As of 29th of April, there are 35 local establishments that’ll participate in the job fair and additional 4 overseas recruitment agencies.
Since SSS is one of the fundamental services that employees ask for, the agency will be giving SSS number to those who voluntary apply. The agency is also open for inquiries regarding SSS matters. The agency asks for the applicants to bring a copy of their birth certificate as a requirement for the issuance of the SSS number.
TESDA’s role in the upcoming Labor Day Job Fair will be providing Competency Assessment and Certification for Workers (CACW) or the free assessment from the agency if the employee is not enrolled or trainee of any TESDA program. Through this system of TESDA, more workers will be able to get a certification from the agency. There will be a few slots available during the job fair. TESDA will also provide information regarding the requirements for the program.
Trabaho, Negosyo, at Konsyumer (TNK) will be the approach that these government agencies will implement. Handling the Negosyo and Konsyumer, DTI will be conducting a consumer symposium for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that they invited. Aside from the symposium, DTI will also conduct food processing for the existing food industries through helping these enterprises to develop their food products as well as a discussion regarding the Fair Trade Laws imposed by the DTI.
POEA will also be participating in the job fair. POEA will verify the overseas agencies if they have the proper authorizations to perform recruitment during the job fair.
Pag-IBIG will also offer their assistance for any applicants who want to register in the Pag-IBIG fund. The agency will assist the applicants to fill-up their forms for the online application of the registration for the Pag-IBIG fund.
