DSWD recognizes BFAR for its anti-povery interventions to fisherfolk

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recognized the The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) MIMAROPA as its outstanding partner in implementing Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) that help the fishermen, seaweeds farmers and coastal-dwellers in the region.

BFAR Assistant Regional Director Roberto R. Abrera received the institutional award in behalf of Regional Director Elizer “Toto” Salilig and the BFAR MIMAROPA Team. The Awarding Ceremony was held recently at Sequoia Hotel, Quezon City in time of the Sulong Bayanihan 2019: Solidarity and Innovations in Bridging Opportunities for Livelihoods (SIBOL).

Director Restituto B. Macuto, National Program Manager Sustainable Livelihood Program, DSWD Central Office handed the recognition.

BFAR was recognized for extensively contributing and extending great effort for the implementation, resource mobilization, provision of support and technical assistance, strengthening of market linkages and network, and partaking in the success of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) in MIMAROPA region.

“BFAR and DSWD in MIMAROPA are closely working together in varied undertakings such as the provision of livelihood assistance to the affected fisherfolk during the closed season, in the pursuance of DA-DILG JAO No. 01 series of 2015, Establishment of Closed Season for the Management of Galunggong (Roundscad; Decapterus spp) in Northern Palawan; livelihood support to seaweed farmers; technical assistance to beneficiaries of SLP in milkfish fry to fingerling production in Oriental Mindoro; support to fisherfolk of Occidental Mindoro; and the support to fisherfolk and coastal-dwellers under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of DSWD, among others,” an statement from BFAR-MIMAROPA said.

A Memorandum of Agreement for Regional Partnership between the DSWD and BFAR Regional Field Office MIMAROPAon the Development of Appropriate Sustainable Livelihood for Coastal Communities that are resource-based, market oriented and community driven was forged last year in Metro Manila.
