ELAC: Mga komunidad sa Narra, tutol sa coal power plant

Mariing tinutulan ng mga residente at katutubo sa Narra ang planong pagpapatayo ng 15 megawatt coal plant ng DMCI sa Batangay Bato-Bato.

Sa press conference na pinangunahan ng ELAC, inilahad nila kung paano nakakaapekto sa klima ang coal.

Ayon sa mga kinatawan ng mga katutubong Tagbanua, ang coal plant ay magdudulot ng pagkasira ng kalikasan, kalusugan at kanilang kabuhayan. Dagdag pa nila, hindi rin sila makakapag hanapbuhay kapag bumaba sila ng siyudad.

“Wala naman po kaming pinag-aralan, na maghanap sa baba, magpunta ng Capitol, kung saan-saan maghanap ng trabaho. Di naman po kami matanggap, wala naman po kaming tinapos. Ang amin lang pong inaasahan ang aming likas yaman sa kabundukan na sana itong coal sana po pigilan na po ng ating mahal na gobernador na isulong ang coal para hindi na po maapektuhan ang hanapbuhay ng mga katutubo.”

Dagdag pa nila, kung magtutuloy-tuloy ito ay mapipilitan silang humingi ng tulong sa gobyerno ng paulit-ulit.

Ayon kay Erwin Puhawan ng Philippine Movement for Climate Justice, napakayaman umano ng Pilipinas sa renewable energy ngunit hindi ito nagagamit. Ayon din sa kanila, may pag-aaral din na ang Palawan ay may potensiyal na magsupply ng 500 megawatts mula sa renewable energy kagaya ng hangin, araw, at dagat.

Sa ika-24 ng Setyembre ay magkakaroon ng malawakang protesta para sa pagsulong ng malinis na enerhiya, at kontrahin ang pag usbong ng mga bagong coal plants.
