The 14th of February is a prominent international tradition which is the celebration of Valentine’s Day. A time when everyone expresses love and gratitude for people around them or it is usually portrayed as a day meant for couples or those who are “in loved”.

In the history, Valentine’s Day is a commemoration of the death anniversary of Christian legend named Saint Valentine, who wholeheartedly gave his life for the cause of love. The celebration is expected as time of giving love letters, bouquet of flowers or sharing a cards to feel the recipient that he or she is important and loved.

Valentines is not only for taken. In social media I have seen so many rants and memes against celebrating Valentines day. Some are trying to cross out the 14 in the calendar or expressing ‘hugot’ lines.

There are many ways to celebrate valentines regardless of your relationship status. Celebrating with family is one of the most memorable things. You can carry out this tradition through expressing love and thankfulness for your family who supports you from the very start of your life. Remember that your home is the first place where you started to learn things and to define what really love is.

Celebrating with friends or best friend is also the happiest. You may send them a greeting, a present including a simple message that states how you are thankful having real companions in life who stayed by your side even on your worst situation. You have to bear in mind that you have friends who accepted your flaws, listening to your problems or dramas and showing their sympathy just to make you feel comfort.

Furthermore, I suggest making a little effort for your teachers or professors who show their love by sharing all the knowledge they have and educating us in an ethical way. But if you are alone, you can still celebrate valentines by doing your passion.

Valentines is not just about dating. It is a day of showing love for everyone that we often forget because of work and other business. We sometimes forgot to remind people how much we love them and how do we care for them. It is not only for couples. As long as you know how to love, or you feel being loved, you are entitled to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
