A team of Palawan State University engineering and nursing faculty has fabricated a disinfection chamber, a prototype intended to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and other viral diseases.

The prototype has been examined and inspected today by the Department of Health and has passed the criteria for it to be safely used by the public.

The team, composed of Engr. Melchor Jaramilla, Prof. Hermanito Consad Jr., Engr. Roy Dayupay, Engr. Edwin Lusoc Engr. Jezreel Tuquero, Engr. Patrick Nangkil and Engr. Nickie Caaaby,  fabricated the chamber and is now ready to be used.

In an exclusive interview of Palawan Daily with Dr. Ramon M. Docto, university president of Palawan State Univeristy, he said that this is one of their ways to help address the fight against COVID-19.

“Ito po ay yung initiative ng Palawan State University, para sa pagtulong namin sa problema sa COVID-19. Ito po ay sa simpleng gawain namin, with different colleges, college of engineering, college of nursing, at iba pang kolehiyo through this administration, gumawa kami ng prototype ng disinfection chamber. Ito po ay contribution ng akademya upang makatulong sa problema [sa COVID-19]. Sana ito na mapakinabangan,” said Dr. Docto.

The university president also said that the team is planning to create one more for it to be used by the Ospital ng Palawan.

Meanwhile, Dr. Frances Muriel L. Tuquero, vice president for Research and Extension of PSU, said that the fabrication of this chamber will be of huge help to the community.

“A unit of this prototype will complement the COVID-19 prevention efforts of the University. While its food distribution activity provides more immediate help to stranded students and non-Puerto Princesa residents, the help this chamber can offer is greater especially if placed in hospitals or public places like the market and department store entrances. Sana mas marami pa ang makakagawa ng ganito,” Dr. Tuquero said.
