Palawan’s most colorful and culturally rich fiesta in the island town of Cuyo is officially canceled this year in accordance with the Executive Order issued by Mayor Mark Delos Reyes. The said order is aligned with the Presidential Proclamation 929 s2020 declaring state of calamity due to COVID-19.

Cuyo Fiesta is set every August 28, the feast day of St. Augustine, and was called Purongitan Festival in the past years, wherein putting of aniel (Blue Powder) in your face or body is a tradition that completes the Ati-ati celebration.

The said order advises every Cuyonons to remember all frontliners and those who passed away in this year’s celebration, while the funds that is supposed to be allocated for the celebration will be used as contingency and health protocols to avoid COVID-19.

All barangay chiefs were given instruction not to hold or allow any extravagant and grandiose feast, as penalty will be imposed to those who will violate the said executive order that was signed by Mayor Delos Reyes last May 11, 2020.

Cuyo has recorded 6 active cases of COVID-19 as of July 30 mostly locally stranded individuals.
