COVID-19 vaccines, epektibo din ba sa bagong variant nito?

Aminado si Department of Health Regional Director Dr. Mario Baquilod na wala pang kongkretong pag-aaral kung epektibo rin ba ang COVID-19 vaccines sa bagong variant ng nasabing virus o tinatawag na B117 na unang nadiskubre sa United Kingdom noong nakaraang taon.

“Base po sa mga datos na ipinapalabas ng ating Department of Health, wala pa naman tayong very specific data about that kung yung mga vaccine na na-develop ngayon effective ba sa bagong variant [ng COVID-19]. Very raw pa ang data o incomplete so at this point in time we cannot make a good conclusion na itong ating bagong mga vaccine are effective as well sa ating bagong variant. We still need more information about this one,” Ani Baquilod.

Ayon pa sa kaniya, ang bagong variant ng COVID-19 ay mas mabilis makahawa pero hindi kasing delikado kumpara sa naunang bersyon nito.

“Itong variant ng COVID-19 ay mas nakakahawa pero compared sa ating COVID-19 since March ay less pathogenic. Hindi naman mas grabe ito at ang diperensya lang ay mas nakakahawa raw itong COVID-19 variant, yung transmissibility ay mas [mabilis] compared to the previous COVID-19…” pahayag ni Baquilod.

Samantala, ipinaalala pa rin ng DOH na isa sa mabisang paraan para maiwasang mahawaan ng virus ay ang pagsunod sa ipinatutupad na minimum health protocols.

“Easy naman tayo ay mak-areceive ng bakuna [pero] we just have to maintain yung ating minimum health standards. Yung ating paggamit ng [face] mask, ng [face] shield, hand washing [at] yung [social] distancing. We still have to continue implementing that,” dagdag na pahayag ni Baquilod.
