The Puerto Princesa City Government has sought the support and cooperation of private medical practitioners in the city in its ongoing battle against COVID-19.

City Administrator Arnel Pedrosa said that the Local Government of Puerto Princesa believes that  the help of medical doctors residing in the city will be vital to expedite the implementation of the city’s vaccination program. The vaccines are expected to arrive by the third quarter of 2021.

Pedrosa added that for that purpose, Mayor Lucilo Bayron led a virtual meeting yesterday that focused on how the doctors and the City Government will work hand-in-hand in vaccinating the residents which the Chief Executive dubbed as a “Race Against Time.”

“Ayon [naman] sa mga present [sa Zoom Meeting] na mga doctors na private medical practitioners ay laban nating lahat ito kaya agad silang tatalima at nangakong tutulong sila upang mapabilis ang pagbabakuna,” Pedrosa said thru a text message.

Early this year, the local government unit of Puerto Princesa ordered 200,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines that can be used to vaccinate 100,000 people.

In a post in the City Mayor’s Office’s Facebook Page, the LGU announced that they are taking steps to speed up the delivery of 200,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. They added that they have even asked for instance from British Ambassador for additional doses.

Puerto Princesa is currently facing a surge in COVID-19 cases. The city officials believe that mass vaccination will be crucial to lower COVID-19 cases to manageable levels.
