PGP allocates ₱50M per year for Palaweños who want to take a medical course

The Provincial Government of Palawan (PGP) has allocated ₱50M per year for the ‘Programang Pang-Edukasyon para sa Palawan’ or Scholarship Program for all Palaweños who want to take a medical course and other medical-related courses.

Provincial Ordinance No. 2627, Series of 2021, entitled “Ensuring a Multi-Year Budget of Fifty Million Pesos (₱ 50,000,000.00) Per Year Allocation for the Scholarship Program of the Provincial Government of Palawan.” was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and signed by Gov. Jose Chavez Alvarez.

The ordinance aims to ensure that the provision of the Scholarship Program to Palaweños will continue for many years.  Primarily, its intended to ensure that there will be a sufficient number of doctors, nurses and other medical practitioners in the Province to support the medical manpower of sixteen (16) hospitals promised by JCA before the end of his term.

“The necessity and great importance of the Scholarship Program must be continued because helping the poorest of the poor but deserving students of this Province will support the realization of their dreams and subsequently serve the hospitals in this Province.” as stated in the Ordinance.

Currently, thirteen (13) hospitals have opened and serving the Palaweños, while thirty-three (33) Palaweño Scholars are now serving as a full-fledged doctors in the Provincial Hospitals that are beneficiaries of Scholarship Grant of the PGP.
