The El Nido Sewage and Solid Waste Treatment Plant (STP) is set to be inaugurated on its tentative date on September 8, 2021, Provincial Information Officer Atty. Christian Jay Cojamco said on Tuesday, August 17.
According to Atty Cojamco, the facility located in Sitio Batbat, Brgy. Villa Libertad in the said municipality is “already 100% completed.”
“Personnel and staff who will man the project are already in place.” Cojamco added.
STP aims to solve the problem of pollution caused by poor sewage/water and solid waste disposal in El Nido.This facility is 100% powered by solar energy and biogas.
This project is in accordance with Republic Act No. 9275 or “Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004” and Section 3 of Republic Act No. 9003 or “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.”
The Phase 1 of the STP began on August 2018 and was jointly funded by the Provincial Government of Palawan (PGP) and the El Nido Local Government Unit (LGU).
