The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, September 13, 2021, confirmed that 85.6% or 640 of the 748 samples sequenced by the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) is the highly transmissible COVID-19 variant, Delta.
According to DOH, 584 of the 640 samples are local cases while 52 are Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF), and the remaining 4 are still being verified whether it is local or the latter.
DOH added that most cases found are in the National Capital Region which has 112, Cagayan Valley which has 52, Calabarzon which has 49 cases.
The total number of Delta variant cases in the country is now at 2,708.
“Three cases are still active, 13 cases have died, while 624 cases have been tagged as recovered. Case details are being validated by the regional and local health offices,” DOH said.
Aside from Delta, health authorities also detected 28 new Beta variant cases, 24 Alpha variant cases, and five cases of P.3 variant.
