The Provincial Veterinary Office has heightened its guard against African Swine Fever (ASF) in all entry points in Palawan.
The island province is one of the places in the country that is in the “green zone” from the swine disease which means that there is no recorded case yet and it is able to supple swine to Manila.
The PVO wants to keep this status as it will greatly affect the province’s economy if there will be an outbreak.
Provincial Veterinary Office OIC Dr. Darius Mangcucang said through the Provincial Information Office social media post that their office is in full swing monitoring the municipalities and continuous blood collection from farms, backyards, and slaughter houses.
He said they have collaborated with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) to prevent ASF or any other livestock diseases as well as engaged the help of local governments in the municipalities by increasing quarantine personnel in the ports of Rio Tuba, Buliluyan, Balabac, and other entry points.
Imported swine products are also inspected and are not able to enter without the required documents and certification of point of origin from the BAI.
