The streets of Puerto Princesa City were filled by Palaweños4LeniKiko and Robredo People’s Council Palawan Youth Volunteers during their caravan and parade yesterday, February 25, on the 36th year of commemoration for the EDSA People Power Revolution.

The event began with “Misa Para Sa Kalayaan / Misa Para Sa Kulay Rosas Na Bukas” at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral that started at 4:00 PM, to commemorate the then people power revolution for the victory and democracy in liberation from the dictatorship of Marcos Sr.

After the mass, the “Lakad Para sa Gobyernong Tapat” took place, concluding the caravan and parade at the Mendoza Park wherein the supporters danced the sweat away, led by Dancers for Leni.

Then proceeded to the lighting of candles, singing “Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo,” the same song that was sung 36 years ago during the EDSA People Power Revolution.

According to one of the youth volunteers of the Robredo People’s Council Palawan Youth volunteers, they only expected about 200 volunteers and supporters to attend the event, but it consequently doubled during the actual event.

“RPC Palawan Youth volunteers made pink flaglets and Leni-Kiko banners na sakto lang sa anticipated numbers,” said Gene Eisen Nale, a youth volunteer of RPC who is also a second year Petroleum Engineering student in Palawan State University.

“Came to the event yesterday, we saw 450-500 Kakampinks who walked with us to Mendoza Park,” he added.

Nale also talked about how the Palaweño Kakampinks can also be likened to the personality of their candidate, loves radically, that is why they have chosen to dance, sing, and wave to everyone regardless if they are supporting the same candidate or not.

According to the organizers, the main purpose of the caravan is to show support for their chosen candidate and encourage the citizens of the city to commemorate the country’s history continuously.

“Mahalaga ito to raise awareness na may pag-asa pa ang bansa dahil mayroong tayong mga disente at maayos na kandidato ngayong eleksyon,” said Nale.

“Leni is an economist and Kiko is a pro-agriculture lawmaker, both are great lawyers pa. Why settle for empty promises, convicted plunderers, and liars?” he said, finalizing his statement.

The event was spearheaded by the efforts of Palaweños for Leni and Kiko in cooperation with RPC Palawan Youth Volunteers and other different sectors in Palawan, such as Artists for Leni, Lawyers for Leni, Bankers for Leni, Bikers for Leni, Doctors for Leni, Senior Citizens for Leni and Youth for Leni.

The event was also graced with the creativity of some of the Kakampinks in the city, namely “Mga Sexy for Leni”, “Kalbo for Leni”, and “Singles for Leni”.

Youth volunteer Gene Eisen Nale also expressed their excitement as their organization prepares for the much-awaited grand rally  of the presidential candidate, Vice President Leni Robredo, vice presidential aspirant, Sen. Kiko Pangalinan, and the rest of their senatorial slate, here in the city.

However, the youth volunteer also reiterated that the campaign is “people-funded,” that is why their team will have upcoming fundraising activities.

“We are all both excited and anxious for the next months, especially for the circumstances that are unknown and are yet to unfold, but we remain hopeful and present,” he said.

Nale would also like to invite his fellow Palaweños to check out their fundraising activities on their Facebook page, Art4Leni Palawan, to support and patronize their projects to help them raise more progress with their ongoing campaign.
