The National Telecommunications Communication (NTC) on Friday said that it has approved the registration of SpaceX’s Starlink Internet Services Philippines Inc., owned by the CEO and co-founder of Tesla, Elon Musk.
With the approval of the value-added service (VAS), the Philippines will become the first country in Southeast Asia to offer such Starlink services, said by the commission.
SpaceX was developed in 2002 to serve as a low-earth orbit satellite to bring broadband technology that can serve to cover villages in urban and even suburban areas in the rural communities that are still underserved by internet connectivity.
The NTC says that the bound internet services can offer “high-speed, low latency satellite service” with download speeds of up to 100Mbps to 200Mbps.
