Palawan’s much-anticipated Baragatan Festival 2023 will showcase the exhilarating Saraotan Sa Dalan Street Dancing Competition, where talented dancers from different municipalities of Palawan will come together to compete.

This event is one of the major highlights of the festival, aiming to celebrate the culture, history, and talent of the Palaweños.

The competition, scheduled at 1PM on June 23, will emphasize the artistry and skill of the dancers as they perform dances that showcase the beauty and significance of Palawan’s culture. Each group will showcase their expertise in conveying meaningful messages and stories through their captivating dances and choreography.

The winners of the Saraotan Sa Dalan Street Dancing Competition will receive P700,000 for the 1st prize, P600,000 for the 2nd prize, P500,000 for the 3rd prize. Groups who will not secure any place will also receive P100,000 each as a consolation prize.

Along with financial rewards, the victorious participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and abilities in various prestigious performances throughout the province of Palawan.

The competition mechanics aim to ensure fair play and provide an equal opportunity for participating dance groups. Here are the key details of the Saraotan sa Dalan Street Dancing Competition:

1) Theme and Concept: Each dance group is required to interpret and highlight various ethnic groups in the province such as Molbog, Palaw’an, Batak, Tagbanua, Tao’t Bato, Cuyunon / Agutaynon, which embodies the rich heritage, traditions, and natural wonders of Palawan. The concept should be creatively expressed through choreography, music, costumes, and props.
2) Team Composition: Dance groups must consist of a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 150 members. Participants should represent their respective municipalities in Palawan. Propsmen and support staff should wear a black T-shirt according to the competition guidelines. A complete list of names of each respective participants should be submitted before the actual competition.
3) Judging Criteria: Diverse aspects will be considered during the judging process, including choreography, execution, synchronization, costume and prop design, musicality, and overall impact. Adherence to the theme and concept will also play a crucial role in determining the winners. There will be two judging areas; their warm-up piece to be held in Mendoza Park and their main piece in PGP Convention Center at the Provincial Building.

Anticipated to draw tourists and local residents alike, the event promises an exciting and unforgettable experience. The Baragatan Festival serves not only as a celebration of unity but also as an occasion to showcase the richness of Palawan’s culture and natural beauty.

As the Baragatan Festival draws near, dance groups are already immersed in rigorous preparations, fine-tuning their choreography, and perfecting their performances. The competition promises to be an extraordinary display of talent, creativity, and cultural pride.

The Saraotan Sa Dalan is a renowned and significant part of the Baragatan Festival, demonstrating the Palawan Provincial Government’s support for the arts and culture of its people.

The upcoming competition is expected to not only provide entertainment and delight to the spectators but will also showcase the excellence and skill of Palawan’s dancers, serving as ambassadors of their culture and identity.
