In an effort to enhance educational services for Palaweño students, the 44th Sangguniang Panlalawigan advocates for the division of the Department of Education (DepEd Palawan) into North and South Division Offices.
This move aims to provide more effective support to schools and teachers while catering to the unique needs of the Northern and Southern regions of Palawan.
Board Members Roseller S. Pineda, Ryan D. Maminta, and Rafael V. Ortega, Jr. jointly authored Proposed Resolution No. 1413-23 titled “Requesting the Hon. Representatives Edgardo ‘Egay’ Salvame Lim and Jose ‘JCA’ Ch. Alvarez of the First and Second Legislative Districts of Palawan to Establish Schools Division Offices (SDOs) in Northern and Southern Palawan.”
The resolution highlights the necessity of this division to optimize service delivery, oversight, and administration by DepEd-Palawan.
“Actually, the city is highly urbanized, and they have a single division. Palawan has one division too, but we want to divide it into two, making it three: North and South, plus Puerto Princesa,” explained BM Pineda.
The main challenge facing DepEd Palawan is the need to address issues at each school across the vast province, with a single Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) overseeing the entire region.
The resolution has been referred to the Committee on Basic Education for further examination, ensuring that the important details of this proposal are thoroughly considered.
BM Pineda emphasized the importance of this move, stating, “The vastness of Palawan and having a single superintendent make it challenging to reach every school. We need this to improve not only the quality of education but also various aspects within each division.”
The provincial legislators hope that this initiative is expected to elevate the quality of education for students in both Northern and Southern Palawan.
