During a routine compliance monitoring visit in Barangay Bintuan, Coron, Palawan, on January 16, the District Management staff encountered a Palawan Hill Mynah, locally known as kiyaw. This bird is an endangered and protected species under the Wildlife Act.
Upon investigation, the team identified the bird being kept in a residential area and addressed the violation by educating the owner about the laws protecting the Palawan Hill Mynah. The bird was then voluntarily handed over to the District Management Office (DMD) Calamian for proper care.
Subsequently, the rescued bird was transferred to Calauit Safari, where it will undergo rehabilitation to ensure its health and well-being.
The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) reminds the public of the importance of adhering to environmental laws to protect endangered species and promote harmony between wildlife and local communities.
