The Mayors for Good Governance has called for a cohesive action to end corruption while they demand full transparency, accountability and justice on flood control projects across the country.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Mayors for Good Governance said that they “stand firmly with the Filipino people in demanding the truth, accountability, and justice behind the massive corruption allegations in flood control and other infrastructure projects, including the reported collusion between government officials and favored contractors,”.
To recall President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his fourth State of Nation Address (SONA) ordered the investigation of ₱350 billion worth of flood control projects across the country, which the Mayors for Good Governance said that as local leaders on the frontlines of disaster response, they welcome this move and fully support the pursuit of justice.
“We, as public servants, demand from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and all concerned national government agencies the immediate and full disclosure of all project details: the Programs of Work, Detailed Unit Price Analyses, Bill of Quantities, and Feasibility Studies, and most urgently—the names of contractors and politicians responsible for these multi-billion peso projects funded by our taxpayers,” the statement reads.
Last week, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered a thorough investigation into the multibillion-peso flood control program after an internal review showed a disturbing patterns in the awarding of projects and spending, which they found out that only 15 contractors securing nearly 20% of the over P500 billion budget program.
“Flood control projects have existed for decades, but over the past years, corruption in these projects has become more alarming, pervasive, and systematic. There is no justification for any secrecy or delay. The Filipino people have waited long enough. Families have suffered unrelenting floods and landslides. Transparency is no longer optional, but a duty we owe to every Filipino,” the statement further said.
The Mayors for Good Governance has made their position clear, emphasizing the immediate full transparency and genuine accountability. They said that those who have stolen public funds must face the full force of the law. They also said that once proven guilty, politicians and bureaucrats must not only be removed from office, but also prosecuted and jailed.
“Corruption must end now. The Filipino people deserve a government that protects and serves them, not one that endangers their lives and robs them of their future,” the statement said.
