The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Palawan, through the Bataraza District, has officially launched the “Batang Bataraza Bumabasa” project to address literacy gaps among grade school learners in the municipality.

The initiative is anchored on the theme “Strengthening Teachers’ Competence in Systematic Reading Monitoring for Improved Literacy Outcome and Lifelong Reading.”

According to project outlines, the program implements a hybrid support and reinforcement mechanism tailored for district-wide literacy interventions. Top officials from DepEd Palawan and municipal stakeholders attended the formal launching event, which included representatives from Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corp. (RTNMC) attending as one of the invited stakeholders.

The program incorporates several operational components, including data facility development and curation to track student progress metrics, reading materials distribution directly to district schools, and training and development modules focused on systematic reading assessments for educators.

Additional components involve stakeholder linkages, monitoring, evaluation, and research development to sustain long-term educational outcomes.

The primary benefit of the “Batang Bataraza Bumabasa” project is addressing and closing literacy gaps among grade school learners across the municipality.

Specifically, the program provides improved reading competence through hybrid support and reinforcement mechanisms to enhance reading outcomes and promote lifelong reading habits for children. It also enhances teacher effectiveness by focusing on strengthening educators’ competence in systematic reading monitoring and assessment, allowing teachers to better track and guide student progress.

Furthermore, it establishes structured community and institutional support by linking private sector resources with the Department of Education, creating structured channels for data facility development, material distribution, and long-term educational research and monitoring.
