The Department of Agriculture (DA) has granted the request of the city government of Puerto Princesa to raise goats within Gintong Butil (GB) Agri Farm in Barangay Sta. Lucia this city, which they allocate P6.4 Million for the establishment of a goat multiplier farm.

Miguelito Cervancia of the City Agriculture’s Office, who is also the manager of the Gintong Butil Agri Farm said that 27 heads of goat from the DA-livestock program will be raised in a 400-square meter area within the farm. Part of the budget will be utilized intended for the enclosure and goat housing.

“After three years, ang ma-pro-produce na offspring ay ibibigay sa mga accredited (livestock) farmers ng city. Ang 27 heads, 25 na babae at dalawang barako ay upgraded na lahi ng kambing” he said.

Last year, September 23, 2024, DA Undersecretary (Usec) Deogracias Victor Savellano visited Gintong Butil Agri Farm together with Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Council (PBIDC) Executive Director Butch Madarang as part of the city’s demonstration farm for its bamboo production project.

Cervancia said that the DA officials was amazed by the initiatives of the city, specifically the Gintong Butin Agri Farm. During the visit, the Usec vowed to support the operations of the city’s integrated farm, which during that time, the staff of the City Agriculturist Office requested one pair or two heads of livestock/goat.

Cervancia further said that they did not expected this project upon knowing the death of Usec Savellano in January 2025. This July 2025, few months after the Usec’s death, he said that they receive a communication from DA Secretary Laurel informing them the grant of P4.6 Million for the goat multiplier farm for Gintong Butil.

Last month, October 2025, Assistant City Agriculturist Enera Tuibeo has requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Puerto Princesa to pass a resolution endorsing the Livestock Economic Enterprise Development (LEED) for Goat Production. She said that the city council’s resolution is one of the requirements of the Strategic Environmental Plan (SEP) clearance from Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD).

The Sanggunian’s committee on environment chaired by City Councilor Elgin Robert Damasco has granted the request of the City Agriculture’s Office to endorse the project for the issuance of SEP Clearance.
