Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) MiMaRoPa Assistant Regional Director Roberto R. Abrera said that since agriculture will be the focus of Marcos’ program for food security, the Department of Agriculture will continue pushing projects to help the coastal communities.
It has been noted that the implementation of aquaculture farming in Palawan resulted to positive output as it gives more income to fish-farmers.
“We cannot always depend on fishing in our seas because our resources are degrading since most of our competitors to fish are coming from different places, and are using high end- technology and big fishing vessels. Since Palawan has bigger potential as fishing ground, we strongly endorse to let them fish along West Philippine Sea,” Abrera told Palawan Daily News.
Abrera stressed that fishing activities along the West Philippine Sea signifies the right to the country’s exclusive economic zone.
BFAR already constructed and is already making use of the newly built community fish landing center on Pag-asa Island in addition to an ice plant and cold storage facilities that is being constructed there under the supervision of local government unit of Kalayaan under the leadership of Mayor Del Mundo, in which their office is just facilitating the downloading of funds and monitoring of the progress of the project.
Palaweños welcome the focus to agriculture and aquaculture by the Marcos administration.
“Maraming salamat po mahal na Presidente BongBong Marcos, dahil sa ngayon ay mapagtutuunan pang lalo ang mga programa para sa pagsiguro ng pagkain sa ating lahat nang hindi naman kalugihan sa aming mga magsasaka at mangingisda ng lalawigan,” an overjoyed Mang Boning from the town of Narra, the rice granary of Palawan, said.
