The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Palawan Field Office extended livelihood assistance to three workers associations in Quezon, Palawan.
In a statement, the DOLE said that as of the first quarter of 2020, they released P 907,010.00 to the barangay local government units of Isugod and Aramaywan as accredited co-partners intended for the livelihood projects of the three groups.
“The DOLE Palawan allotted P 311,000.00 for the livelihood project Fabric Softener Production of Overcome Savings Group Association and Php215,610.00 for Powder Detergent Production of Achiever Savings Group Association, both in Brgy. Isugod, while the remaining Php380,400.00 funded the Seaweed Production of Barukan Mandaragat Association in Brgy. Aramaywan,” the DOLE said in a statement.
DOLE Palawan Field Officer Luis B. Evangelista told the three groups to operate their business well in order to generate more income and provide alternative source of livelihood to their members and in the future, to the community.
“The main source of income of majority of the members is either through farming or fishing. However, it does not suffice the need of their family which is still below the poverty line. Thus, the requested DOLE’s assistance for their livelihood projects will improve the socio-economic well-being of traditional farmers and fisher folks in Quezon especially on lean months and increase the source of income of their members to sustain their day-to-day living,” the DOLE said.
He reminded them that the livelihood assistance and their livelihood should also be taken seriously by the barangay officials since these endeavors contributed to increase economic activities within their respective localities.
“You need to run this livelihood with passion and dedication so that more of your members will benefit from the assistance of the government. Never put your personal-vested interest on the finances of your livelihood. Once we see that you are successful in this endeavor, DOLE will further provide livelihood assistance to your group. Let us take care of the trust provided to us,” Evangelista said.
Urduja Saspa, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager of the local government of Quezon in a previous interview said that one of their western coastal barangays, Sowangan, a predominantly fishing village has also availed livelihood assistance from DOLE, specifically for their tinapa-making and fish processing. She also said that LGU-Quezon will help these workers’ associations by providing them training on business and financial literacy.
Also present during the release of livelihood assistance were Provincial PESO Manager Richard P. Rebote, Provincial Legal Office Representative Atty. Mary Joy Moises Ordaneza and LGU Quezon PESO Manager Urduja C. Saspa.
