The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Puerto Princesa has approved additional 70 tricycles that will serve the commuters in the special zones of Barangay Mangingisda and Luzviminda.
The Sanggunian through its committee on transportation chaired by City Councilor Epitacio “Jie” Lao has conducted a committee meeting to the transport sector in Mangingisda. Other members of the committee were City Councilors Luis Marcaida and Gerry Abad.
After discussing with the tricycle operators and drivers in the area, the committee said that they approve the request of the transport sector in the area that an additional of 70 tricycles be allowed to operate.
“We are proud to announce the approval of an additional 70 tricycle units that will now be legally allowed to ply and serve passengers in Barangay Mangingisda,” Councilor Lao said.
He explained that the new 70 units is on top of the 70 units already provided for under City Ordinance No. 767, bringing the total to 140 tricycles that can legally operate and that will help improve accessibility and transportation in Barangay Mangingisda and nearby areas, specifically in Mangingisda -Luzviminda special zones.
Luzviminda, Mangingisda’s neighboring barangay is where the City’s mini city hall and city operated health facilities are located. However, lack of tricycle for hires are limited in the area, causing inconvenience to the commuters and the general public.
“This significant step was their committee’s and the entire Sangguniang Panlungsod’s efforts “whose shared dedication made this possible,” Lao further said.
The young local legislator is optimistic that this development will spur growth that will help improve the lives of the locals in Mangingisda.
“May this inspire every citizen of Puerto Princesa to continue working hand-in-hand with us, and to remain steadfast in following our city’s rules and regulations. Together, we uplift one another and build a better, more inclusive community for all — especially for those most in need,” Lao said.
Barangay Mangingisda was created in 1984 when then-President Ferdinand E. Marcos issued Proclamation 2347 reserving as a Barangay ng mga Mangingisda a portion of Iwahig Penal Colony covered by Executive Order No. 67 dated 15 October 1912. Some 1,038 hectares has been allocated for residential purpose.
Mangingisda is approximately 36 to 37 kilometers from the city proper of Puerto Princesa via land travel. The direct straight line sea distance is approximately 7.5 kilometers from Puerto Princesa seaport to fish port in barangay Mangingisda.
