In order to provide easy access to education to the students, a resolution has passed by the City Council, requesting the Schools Division Office of Puerto Princesa to establish a public high school in Brgy. Concepcion.
The proposed measure, Sanggunian Draft Ordinance (SDO) 155-2020 filed by Councilor Peter “Jimbo” Maristela, was an offshoot to the 58th Regular Session and Consultation of the Council held in Bgy. Langogan last Sept. 14. During the said consultation, Punong Barangay Job Rodriguez Francisco of Bgy. Concepcion expressed that they are aiming for the establishment of a public high school in their barangay because around 200 high school students from their area were still walking or travelling for more or less seven kilometers daily in order to attend their classes in San Rafael National High School.
When the proposed resolution will be approved and a new school is established, the author said that several students from a nearby barangay, in Brgy. Binduyan, will also benefit from it. The proponent likewise guarantees that the local government unit will pass necessary legislations in order to support DepEd-Puerto Princesa.
Under DepEd Order No. 40, series of 2014, the Schools Division Office is mandated to identify, determine, prioritize, and initiate the move for the establishment of public school in basic education.
At present, the proposed measure was referred to the Education Committee, chaired by City Councilor Victor Oliveros, and that will be calendared later on for second reading.
