In an admirable display of dedication and compassion, a team of veterinarians led by Dr. Erica Gane Reyes and Dr. Myla Aliangan from the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary (DAS) accomplished a remarkable mission at the Street Dog Sanctuary in Barangay Port Barton, San Vicente, Palawan. Over the course of just two days, the team worked tirelessly to neuter and spay all remaining unsterilized dogs and cats, administered necessary vaccinations, and provided dewormer and bravecto treatments for all dogs.
The mission was not without its challenges, as the team encountered relentless and torrential rain throughout most of their time at the sanctuary. Undeterred by the inclement weather, the team valiantly trudged through a 25-minute muddy hike to reach the shelter, showcasing their strong commitment to the welfare of the animals.
The services provided by Dr. Erica Gane Reyes and Dr. Myla Aliangan were nothing short of exceptional. Not only did they carry out their veterinary duties with utmost professionalism, but they also brought good humor and warmth to the mission, earning them well-deserved praise as true stars in their field.
The success of their mission would not have been possible without the selflessness of volunteers Rina and Rudylyn, who left their families behind to join the team on their journey to Palawan. Their dedication to helping animals in need has been instrumental in making this initiative a reality.
DAS also expressed their gratitude to the staff at Street Dog Sanctuary for their warm reception and hospitality during their stay. Special thanks were extended to Jacqueline Martin, co founder of the Street Dog Sanctuary, who provided the team with food at her restaurant, ensuring they stayed nourished and energized throughout their endeavor.
Furthermore, the mission was made possible thanks to the generous donations from supporters. Those interested in continuing to support the Street Dog Sanctuary can do so through their Facebook page, contributing to the ongoing care and welfare of the animals in need.
As the team takes a well-earned rest today to recuperate, they can do so knowing that their efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of these animals, providing them with a brighter and healthier future. Their journey back is scheduled for Friday, and they carry with them the satisfaction of knowing they have made a tangible difference in the lives of these beloved street dogs and cats.
