The MIMAROPA Region experienced the impacts of Southwest Monsoon (SWM) with moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds brought by Super Typhoon Egay, particularly affecting the provinces of Occidental Mindoro and Palawan. As a result, disaster response teams immediately sprang into action, and reports were submitted to assess the extent of the damage and provide necessary aid.

According to the latest report from the Disaster Response Operation Management and Information Center (DROMIC), a total of four provinces and 13 local government units (LGUs) were affected by the SWM effects, prompting the activation of 41 Evacuation Centers (ECs) spread across 44 barangays. These centers were set up to accommodate 1,363 displaced families, comprising approximately 5,348 individuals who were forced to evacuate their homes due to the adverse weather conditions.

In response to the immediate needs of the affected population, the LGUs swiftly provided hot meals to the evacuees. Moreover, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA worked closely with the concerned Local Social Welfare and Development Offices (LSWDOs) to validate the actual number of affected families and assess their current situations. This information served as the basis for the provision of necessary interventions and assistance.

As of the latest update, the Department has a sufficient stock of 104,005 Family Food Packs (FFPs), ensuring that there is enough supply to cater to the needs of the affected populace. To further support those in need, the DSWD MIMAROPA, in coordination with the SWADT Team Occidental Mindoro, has already distributed Family Food Packs to the Municipality of Sablayan.

Additionally, they are actively preparing for the smooth distribution of goods to other affected communities, families, and individuals in the provinces mentioned above.

As the region continues to respond to the effects of SWM, authorities remain vigilant and prepared to extend assistance wherever necessary to alleviate the impact on affected communities.
