Mga COVID Sheriff, ‘maximum tolerance’ ang paiiralin sa pagtupad ng tungkulin

“Maximum tolerance” umano ang paiiralin ng mga bagong talagang COVID Sheriff sa pagpapatupad ng mga batas at health protocols sa Puerto Princesa.

Sa phone interview, binigyang-diin ng program manager ng COVID Sheriff Program ng lungsod na si Ernan Libao na hanggat kaya, dadaanin nila sa diplomasya at paaalalahanan ang publiko bago mag-issue ng tiket sa mga lalabag sa minimum health standards.

“Sa ngayon, ang objective naman talaga natin is mahinto ang pagkalat ng virus (COVID-19). Hindi naman natin tina-target [talaga] na magkaroon ng mga paghuli. So, maximum tolerance pa rin po talaga tayo at i-remind lang [natin sila na sundin ang mga health protocols],” ani Libao.

Matatandaang pormal na nabuo ang COVID Sheriff Program ng siyudad noong May 5 sa pamamagitan ng EO 26, s. 2021 na ibinaba ng Tanggapan ng Punong Lungsod. Kasama sa mga isinapubliko ay ang sample ng Notice of Violation o Abiso ng Paglabag. Karamihan sa mga kasama sa programa ay mga COVID marshalls na naitalaga noon na boluntaryo lamang.

Sa ngayon umano, wala pa silang nabibigyan ng notice of violation. Pero paalala nila, kung humantong na sa matinding paglabag ay hindi sila mag-aatubili na mag-issue ng tiket at puwede pang magsampa ng kaso.

“Itong mga COVID Sheriff natin, mga persons in authority na po ito, mga law enforcer na po ito na kung saan, kapag sila ay ma-assault, ibang kaso po ‘yan. Ayaw naman nating umabot sa gano’n kaya ang ginagawa natin, maximum tolerance pa rin,” saad niya.

“May mga report din po from our sheriff na talagang minsan halos bubuhusan na sila ng kape. Nakaabot ‘yong mga report ng ibang sheriffs natin na sila na ang inaaway, tapos dina-down sila [at sinasabihan ng] ‘Wala ‘yan! ‘Wala ‘yan! Mga swelduhan lang [sila],” ang pagbabahagi pa ng Program Manager ng COVID Sheriff Program ng lungsod.

Sa kasalukuyan ay naka-deploy na umano ang mga nasa 150 sheriff sa urban areas ng Puerto Princesa simula noong kasagsagan pa ng pagsasailalim ng hard lockdown sa limang barangay. Initial pa lamang umano iyon hanggang ngayon dahil may kailangan pang orientation bago sila maitalaga sa mga kritikal na lugar.

“As of now, ‘yong ating mga COVID Sheriff, may mga naka-deploy na po tayo na naka-undergo na ng orientation. And then, mayroon pa tayong mga ongoing na orientation,” aniya.
