The Muslim community in Puerto Princesa City gathered last Wednesday, April 10, in Ramon V Mitra Sports Complex at Balayong People’s Park for the E’id ‘l Fitr, an Islamic feast that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
A day prior to the E’id ‘l Fitr, some Muslims conducted moonsighting at Nagtabon peak, Barangay Bacungan which was followed by a Grand Iftar. Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan at the time of adhan (call to prayer) of the Maghrib prayer.
Last night, Shaykh Muhammad Yusop Pasigan, Grand Mufti, Region XI declared that the first day of the month of Shawwal 1445 AH/2024 AD will begin on April 10, 2024, upon the sighting of the crescent moon.
Said Alih K. Sha, a Muslim biologist, who partake the feast said that they are thankful to City Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron, Vice Mayor Nancy Socrates and to the City Council. He also specially mentioned City Councilor Elgin Robert L. Damasco, City Administrator Atty. Arnel M. Pedrosa and House Speaker and currently the Palawan 3rd district legislative caretaker, Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.

“Eid Mubarak (Have a blessed feast) to one & all. May Almighty Allah forgive our sins, accept and reward our good deeds. May this feast of Ramadhan brings love, peace, unity & prosperity for both Muslim & Non-Muslim,” Sha greeted.
City Councilor Damasco and former congressman Atty. Gil Acosta Jr. offered free food to Muslims who participated the feast.
“Sa pagdiriwang ng Eid Al-Fitr o pagtatapos ng pinagpalang buwan ng Ramadan sa ating mga kapatid na Muslim, muling namahagi tayo ng snacks para sa mga kapatid nating nagsamba at nagdiwang ng pagtatapos ng pag-aayuno sa RVM Sports Complex,” Damasco said.
