In an effort to combat malnutrition among infants and young children, the Palawan Provincial Government, under the leadership of Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates, recently organized a comprehensive three-day Malnutrition Reduction Training-Workshop held on September 5-7 in Puerto Princesa City.
The initiative targeted Barangay Environment, Agriculture Nutrition Scholars (BEANS) in Palawan, aiming to equip them with essential knowledge and tools to tackle malnutrition in their communities.
The training-workshop saw active participation from BEANS representatives across the region, with the collaboration of the Ipilan Nickel Corporation as part of their Social Development and Management Program 2023.
The primary objective of this workshop was to address and reduce the prevalence of malnutrition cases among infants and young children in Palawan. Under the expert guidance of Provincial Nutrition Office (PNO), participants were immersed in a structured program that focused on the DOST PINOY (Package for the Improvement of Nutrition of Young Children) initiative such as Basic Nutrition, Breastfeeding, Proper and Safe Pregnancy, Supplementary Feeding, Meal Planning, Safe Food Practices and Backyard Gardening.
Rachel T. Paladan, the Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, emphasized the significance of disseminating the knowledge gained during the workshop.
With their newly acquired knowledge and skills, the BEANS participants are expected to play a crucial role in improving child nutrition and fostering healthier communities across the province.
