Puerto Princesa was witness to an impressive display of culinary and mixological expertise as the city’s finest chefs, bartenders, and mixologists converged at the “Subaraw Barista, Mixology, and Dish/Cuisine Competition” on November 7.
The event unfolded at the Balayong Grill Bar and Restaurant within the Best Western Plus The Ivy Wall Hotel.
Russel Remolazo’s exceptional skills shone through as he emerged victorious in the “Barista Latte Art” category, surpassing twenty-five competitors. Representing Siblings Cafe, this first-year college student from Palawan State University (PSU) claimed the top prize of ₱20,000.00.
Jhessa Lynn Cabag, representing Summer Days Cafe, secured ₱20,000.00 in the “Signature Coffee Competition.” Meanwhile, Joey Cris Balorio of Fourpoints By Sheraton triumphed in the “1st Flairtending Competition,” also taking home a ₱20,000.00 prize.
Alvin Delos Santos, hailing from the municipality of El Nido, secured the second position, with Mark Jason Anza claiming the third spot.
The Mixology Signature Drink Competition witnessed Keneth Paul Cacho of Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan, clinching victory with his creation, “Cleopatra’s Needle” drink. Franklin Gadiano’s “Peacock” drink and John Crister Briones’ “Binacol,” both from El Nido, took second place, while Joey Cris Balorio’s “Pagdiwata Cocktail” secured the third spot.
In the “Putahe Professional” category, Team Canvas, composed of Roselo Dauplo and Ronald Wagan, won ₱50,000.00 for their delectable creation, ‘Pasyak sa Niligeb nga Niyog.’ In the “Amateur” category, Mary Claire Avenir and Leah Mae Ypil, representing Team Explorer, received ₱30,000.00 in prizes for their Pokon dish, surpassing four other competitors.
David De Leon and Novah De Leon emerged victorious in the Sponsors Mystery Box Challenge, earning ₱3,000.00 and various other prizes, outshining five other contestants.
The awarding ceremony was presided over by Mayor Lucilo Rodriguez Bayron, represented by Councilor Patrick Alex Hagedorn and PPUR Park Manager Elizabeth Maclang.
The event was the result of the collaborative efforts of Palawan Chef Association President Arnel Almadrones, PPUR Festival Partners Foundation, Inc. led by Ms. Angeli Natasha Mendoza, SARAPPP headed by President Chef Donald Keith Bognoson, and the City Government of Puerto Princesa.
