The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) announced that it have partnered with the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCAA) that it will start offering a training program for traditional, contemporary, performing and media arts and they will issue national certification (NC) for aspiring professional artists.

TESDA Secretary Francisco Benitez announced this new development. The secretary’s announcement was also disseminated and shared by the provincial director of TESDA-Palawan Gerardo Mercado.

“Ang TESDA at NCCA ay nagtutulungan para bigyang pagkilala ang galing ng mga artists, mula sa traditional arts, at maging sa contemporary, performing at media arts, magkakaroon rin ng National Certificates,” Secretary Benitez said.

For the traditional arts, these include wood carving, basket weaving, mat weaving, paper mache, beadworks, hand embroidery and backstrap loom weaving.

For the contemporary, performing and media arts, training program includes, audio production, production design, performing arts choreography, film and video post-production, lighting for live performances, scriptwriting for stage, film, radio, TV and digital.

“Soon pwede ka na nang ma-certify, ma-hire at kilalanin bulang professional artist” Secretary Benitez said.

The TESDA is mandated to manage and supervise technical education and skills development in the country established through Republic Act 7796 also known as the “Technical Education and Skills Development Act of 1994”. TESDA’s core mandate includes integrating, coordinating, and monitoring skills development programs, restructuring efforts to promote middle-level manpower, approving skills standards and tests, and developing an accreditation system for training institutions.
