Tignan | matinding init sa abril at mayo: heat index posibleng umabot sa 50% c, babala ng pagasa

Inaasahan ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) na ang heat index o damang init sa ilang bahagi ng bansa ay maaaring umabot sa pagitan ng 48°C hanggang 50°C pagsapit ng Abril at Mayo.

Ang heat index ay isang sukatan ng init na nararamdaman ng katawan ng tao kapag pinagsama ang aktwal na temperatura ng hangin at ang halumigmig o humidity. Kapag ang heat index ay nasa pagitan ng 42°C hanggang 51°C, ito ay itinuturing na nasa “danger” level, kung saan posible ang pagkakaroon ng heat cramps at heat exhaustion. Ang patuloy na pagkakalantad sa ganitong kondisyon ay maaaring magdulot ng heat stroke.

Noong mga nakaraang taon, ilang lugar sa bansa ang nakaranas ng mataas na heat index. Halimbawa, noong Mayo 6, 2024, umabot sa 50°C ang heat index sa Clark Airport, Pampanga, habang 32 iba pang lugar ang nakapagtala ng “danger” level na heat index.

Upang maiwasan ang mga sakit na dulot ng matinding init, pinapayuhan ang publiko na:

Uminom ng sapat na dami ng tubig upang maiwasan ang dehydration.

Iwasan ang mga aktibidad sa labas lalo na sa pagitan ng 10 AM hanggang 4 PM, kung kailan pinakamainit ang panahon.
Magsuot ng magagaan at maluluwag na damit.
Gumamit ng payong o sumbrero kapag lalabas.
Manatili sa mga lugar na may sapat na bentilasyon o air conditioning.
Mahalaga rin na maging alerto sa mga sintomas ng heat-related illnesses tulad ng pagkahilo, matinding pagpapawis, mabilis na tibok ng puso, at pagduduwal. Kung makaranas ng ganitong sintomas, agad na humingi ng tulong medikal.
Patuloy na subaybayan ang mga ulat ng PAGASA at iba pang opisyal na ahensya para sa pinakahuling impormasyon tungkol sa lagay ng panahon at mga kaugnay na advisories.
