The 20th Philippine Speleological Society (PSS) National Cave Congress is making a return in Puerto Princesa after 13 years.
This is an annual gathering of speleologists, geologists, hydrologists, biologists and cavers all over the country and the world, which is set to happen this coming March 23-27, 2020.
Anchovy Barros of Puerto Princesa Underground River Natural Park Office explained that the congress will have two venues. The March 23 to 24 congress will be at the City Coliseum, while March 25 to 27 is somewhere in Brgy. Cabayugan.
A group of Italian scientists, La Venta, will attend the congress as speakers, the said group is the one who pioneered the exploration of Underground River and its hidden gems.
They are set to share knowledge, skills, and updates regarding the protection and conservation of our karst landscapes. La Venta is one of the forces behind why the Underground River made it to the 7 Wonders of Nature recognition.
Fees and other details regarding the venues, speakers, and workshops are still being finalized as of writing by the organizing committee of PSS and the City Government through the PPUR office, who will co-host the event.
Around 700 people are expected to join this event. Puerto Princesa City last hosted Cave Congress in 2007.
