A businesswoman and law student in San Vicente, Palawan decided to accept the so-called “Haircut for a Cause Challenge” by her friend in order to help the Indigenous People in their community.
Ms. Joy Ello who is also a member of Sagip Kabayan Program based in Puerto Princesa and Action Against Hunger in San Vicente told Palawan Daily News that she took the challenge aiming to help the poorest of the poor in her community.
“They challenged me to do a fund raising here in San Vicente and tinanggap ko para narin makatulong sa mga kababayan ko dito particularly sa Barangay Kemdeng. The main vision is to help our Indigenous People and the poorest of the poor here in San Vicente,” Ello told PDN.
The mechanics is simple, anyone who clicked the “Like” button on her facebook post with a call to donate for her fund raising project will donate P200 or more.
“Nakakatuwa lang po kasi ang daming nag-respond sa post ko and luckily, they really sent me the money pang purchase ng goods na ipamimigay naming. Overwhelming talaga ‘yung response, una ng friends ko pero ang dami talaga nila at ‘yung iba is di ko pa kilala pero nagpapadala,” she added.
Originally, ELLO targeted 50 families who were all IPs but now she and her family will extend the distribution to other poorest of the poor in Kemdeng.
“50 families lang talaga ang original plan pero marami nga ang support kaya ang maximum target ko ngayon is 267 families buong barangay na ‘yun at sana makayanan naming. May mga kids din kaya nagpa-plan ako na magbigay din ng kahit one pack ng gatas at kukunin ko lahat ‘yun sa funds na tina-transfer sa akin at nagko-consolidate na ako ngayon kasi bibili na kami,” said Ello.
Meanwhile, Ello will have her haircut (undercut) done after the Enhanced Community Quarantine and she will post it also on her Facebook account for her donors to see that she really took the challenge that aims to help her community.
