34 nawawalang Sabungero noong 2021-2022, pinatay at tinapon umano sa Taal Lake

Isang suspek sa kaso ng 34 nawawalang sabungero ang lumantad at sinabing patay na ang lahat ng biktima at inilibing umano ang kanilang mga bangkay sa ilalim ng Taal Lake sa Batangas.

Ang pahayag ay mula sa lalaking itinago sa pangalang “Totoy,” isa sa anim na dating security guard ng Manila Arena na naunang tinukoy ng Philippine National Police (PNP) bilang sangkot sa pagkawala ng mga sabungero noong 2021.

Sa isang panayam na ipinalabas sa GMA News 24 Oras, sinabi ng suspek na pinatay ang mga biktima sa pamamagitan ng pagbigti gamit ang tie wire, at kalauna’y itinapon ang mga katawan sa lawa.

“Paano mabubuhay ’yan, eh nakabaon na ’yan doon sa Taal Lake. Lahat ’yan kung huhukayin, mga butu-buto na lang. Paano natin makikilala na sila ’yun,” ani Totoy.

Ayon sa kanya, ang mga sabungero ay inakusahan ng pandaraya sa sabong. Ipinasa umano sila sa ibang grupo na hindi niya pinangalanan.

“Bahala na kayo diyan. Sila mismo, ginagawa nila—tinatalian na ’yung plastic na pantali, kinakarga na sa van,” aniya.

Idinagdag pa ng suspek na hindi lamang sabungero kundi maging ilang umano’y drug lord ang isinama sa mga ibinaon sa Taal Lake. Tumanggi siyang pangalanan ang itinuturong mastermind ng krimen ngunit sinabing handa siyang isiwalat ito “sa tamang panahon.”

Sa isang pahayag nitong Miyerkules, sinabi ni Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla na seryosong tinitingnan ng Department of Justice (DOJ) ang bagong impormasyon. Ayon sa kanya, kailangang pag-aralan ang kredibilidad ng sinasabing testigo at maaaring kailanganin ang tulong ng mga technical divers upang magsagawa ng masusing paghahanap sa ilalim ng lawa.

“We have to determine the veracity of the information. We will study what he’s saying, especially since we already have other witnesses on hand. If this is credible, we may need technical divers because it’s deep and it’s not easy to search a lakebed for human remains,” ani Remulla sa mga mamamahayag.

“If you vanish without a trace, then it must be somewhere no one has thought to look. Maybe that place hasn’t been searched yet,” dagdag niya.

Nakapaloob sa mga unang iniimbestigahang personalidad sina Julie Patidongan, Gleer Codilla, Mark Carlo Zabala, Virgilio Bayog, Johnry Consolacion, at Ronerto Matillano Jr.—lahat ay dating konektado sa seguridad ng Manila Arena, kung saan huling naitala ang presensya ng ilang sabungero bago sila mawala.

Sa kabila ng kawalan ng konkretong ebidensiya, sinabi ng DOJ na ipagpapatuloy ang paghahanap at imbestigasyon bilang tugon sa panawagan ng mga pamilya ng biktima.
“It’s in the very soul of the Filipino to seek closure. We cannot just let this go. We have to be responsible enough to seek the truth, especially in cases like this,” sabi ni Remulla.

Sa ngayon, wala pang kumpirmasyon kung kailan sisimulan ang posibleng paghuhukay sa Taal Lake. Patuloy ang koordinasyon ng DOJ sa PNP at iba pang ahensya para tukuyin kung paano isasagawa ang imbestigasyon sa ilalim ng tubig.
