Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Thursday, September 16, 2021, said that the World Health Organization (WHO) will provide an additional 10 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to the Philippines through the global initiative of the COVAX facility.
According to Galvez, these doses were donated by the Government of the United States of America (USA).
“Nagkaroon na ng official pronouncement ang WHO for additional delivery of 10 million doses of Pfizer. Nagpapasalamat din kami sa WHO sa kanilang masipag na pagfollow-up sa ating mga donors,” he said.
Galvez added Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. went to the USA to thank the government.
Currently, the Philippines has received more than 54.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses. Of this number, 13 million are from the COVAX facility, while 3.6 million have been donated by other countries.
Meanwhile, the Philippines has now administered 39.5 million vaccine doses, 22 million are first doses, while 17.3 million are administered as second doses.
