Halalan ng barangay at SK, ipinagpaliban

Inaprobahan na ng Committee on Electoral Reforms ng Mababang Kapulungan ang isang panukalang magpapaliban sa halalan ng barangay at SK sa susunod na taon. Sa halip ito ay gaganapin sa ikalawang Lunes ng Mayo 2023.

Isa sa pangunahing may-akda na nagpanukala ng pagpapaliban ng halalan ay si Deputy Speaker Paolo “Polong” Duterte ng Davao City, anak ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Kabilang din sa mga may-akda sina si House Majority Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, ng unang distrito ng Leyte; Cong. Way Kurat Zamora ng Compostela Valley; Cong. Inno Dy ng Isabela; at Cong. Claudine Diana Bautista, ng isang party-list.

Ayon sa House Bill 3937, kinakailangang mapalawig pa ang termino ng kasalukuyang nakaupong mga barangay at SK officials upang mabigyan pa sila ng mas mahabang panahon para mapatupad ang kanilang mga proyekto at programa gayong bago pa lang silang nahalal nitong taong 2018.

Mayroong 40 panukala para sa pagpapaliban ng halalan na nakabinbin ngayon sa Mababang Kapulungan ng mga mambabatas.

Makalawang beses ng na-postpone ang barangay at election election sa panahon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte noong 2016 at 2018 upang masigurong walang mga kakandidatong opisyal na nasasangkot sa illegal na druga.

Ngunit nagbabala ang election watchdog na National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) na ang pagpapaliban ng halalan sa susunod na taon ay magpapalawig lang mga tiwaling opisyal ng barangay at SK na kasalukuyang nasa katungkulan.
