President Rodrigo Duterte warned Filipinos Thursday night, April 16 during his address to the nation that the police and military may take over if the Filipinos will continue to break the protocols under Enhanced Community Quarantine.
The head of state said that this is to contain the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 or COVID-19 in the country and to protect its people.
“Hindi naman ito martial law pero parang martial law narin in the sense that I have to impose something on you for your own good and the good of the country and people,” the president said in his address to Filipinos.
The presidents’ pronouncement comes after receiving reports that Filipinos continues to violate quarantine protocols and some frontliners were being harassed and ignored by many.
“I’m just asking for your disiplina konti, kasi pag ayaw ninyong maniwala, mag-take over ang military pati police. I am ordering them now to be ready. Ang police pati military ang mag-enforce sa social distancing at ‘yang curfew,” said the President.
“Parang martial law narin. Mamili kayo, ayaw ko pero pagka-naipit na ‘yung bayan at walang disiplina kayo,” Duterte added.
The better way to do, according to Duterte is to follow, as he, even he is the highest official in the country is following the rules under ECQ.
“Sundin lang natin, ako mismo gusto kong umuwi, birthday ng anak ko, birthday ng apo ko, birthday ng partner ko. Hindi nga ako makasakay ng eroplano kasi hindi ka pa… You’re not allowed to land, that’s the problem. Ako mismo naiinip na, nagmumura na ako everytime I wake up,” said Duterte.
Duterte also said on his address that he could hand down the order as early as next week if the situation will not change.
“Baka next, every day they are at it ika nga, andyan sila nakatutok,” Duterted told its people in his address.
