Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles denied rumors circulating on social media that the national government will declare a nationwide lockdown due to the spiking cases of COVID-19 in the country.
“Fake news po ito. Huwag po tayong magpaniwala sa ganitong uri ng balita,” Nograles said in a recent press briefing.
The presidential spokesperson was referring to the voice recording of a man who introduced himself as a presidential staff and microbiologist of the Malacañang. He was urging the public to stock up on food which will last until January 30 on the likelihood that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will declare a nationwide lockdown soon.
Retired PNP Chief and senatorial aspirant Guillermo Eleazar made a statement that spreading such rumors does not help and it just creates public anxiety.
