A rented motorcycle, a sudden swerve into the wrong lane, and a violent collision with a local fisherman’s bike left a 23-year-old Brazilian student dead on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, Yam Wisman, was pronounced dead at the San Vicente District Hospital at 3:31 p.m., succumbing to massive bodily trauma less than an hour after the crash. Police reports indicate the accident occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. along a stretch of highway in Barangay Sto. Niño.
Mr. Wisman was traveling southbound toward Barangay Alimanguan on a white Honda Beat when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle drifted across the center line. He was struck head-on by an oncoming blue motorcycle piloted by an 18-year-old local identified as “Rey.”
The second motorcycle was carrying three people, the driver and two backriders, at the time of the impact. While all three locals were hospitalized and remain in stable condition, the force of the collision threw Wisman onto the pavement, causing fatal injuries.
San Vicente Municipal Police are currently examining the wreckage to determine if mechanical failure or road conditions played a role in the student’s fatal maneuver. Meanwhile, the administrative machinery of the Brazilian consulate has been engaged to coordinate the return of Wisman’s remains to his home country.
