As a testament of its exemplary performance in all aspects of its operation, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) bagged once again the most coveted Presidential Mineral Industry and Environmental Award (PMIEA) during the 68th Annual National Mine Safety & Environment Conference (ANMSEC) held at Camp John Hay in Baguio City from November 15 to 18, 2022.
In his acceptance speech, CBNC President Shiro Imai, underscored the company’s resiliency during the time of the pandemic bracing aside the risk of COVID-19 in order to provide resources required by the modern times.
“Our company needs to continue its operation in order to provide the needs of the modern times while securing the safety of our employees and act as stewards of environment and continue to help in the development of the community,” said Shiro Imai.
Now on its 8th time since 2014, CBNC has been a consistent recipient of the PMIEA award. The PMIEA is given to mining contractors or permit holders who have shown outstanding levels of dedication, initiatives and innovation in environmental protection, safety and health management, and social development.
CBNC is one of the 12 mining companies in the Philippines who won the PMIEA this year and the only company in the MIMAROPA region to get this kind of award.
CBNC also won the highest award as the Safest Mineral Processing and the Best Mining Forest Awards during the same occasion.
“We thank our colleagues in CBNC for being able to respond for the continued operation of the company despite of the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We also share this award to our barangay and municipal LGUs and to our partner Nickel Asia Corporation who have been helping us in building stronger communities,” CBNC president said.
The CBNC has been winning these top awards in the past several years. Thus, it continues to strive to improve more its operations.
During the PMIEA validation held in October, CBNC Plant Manager Hideaki Sato said, “We will never stop improving our performance for the Philippine people and environment. Whatever maybe the outcome of the validation, I am really proud of our employees.”
CBNC Safety Section Manager Antonio Sanone also expressed his high appreciation and gratitude to the awards received by the company, “We are thankful for all these awards that we received. This just show that we are doing everything right in CBNC.”
