The much anticipated “1ST SPS Governor’s Cup Inter-Municipality 21U Basketball League 2023 Cluster A” officially kicked off yesterday, November 6, at the Cuyo Municipal Gymnasium.
It brought together three municipalities — Cuyo, Agutaya, and Magsaysay — in vying for supremacy on the basketball court.
Cuyo Vice Mayor Edwin G. Timbancaya, who represented Mayor Mark L. Delos Reyes, and Magsaysay Vice Mayor Aloysius M. Quejano, representing Mayor Rommel L. Dela Torre, extended warm greetings to all participating teams. They also expressed their gratitude to Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates and Vice Governor Leoncio N. Ola for initiating the event.
The opening ceremony saw the presence of key figures such as Provincial Sports Division–Sports Development Officer IV Silvany Delight Q. Gastanes and League Commissioner Reggie Talian, alongside several members of the Municipal Councils from the participating municipalities.
“We are here this afternoon to kick off the 1st Governor’s Inter-Municipality 21-under Basketball Tournament with the aim of providing our talented young athletes with the opportunity to excel in the game of basketball across different parts of Palawan. We want to encourage our youth to dedicate their time to beneficial pursuits like sports, in addition to their studies,” Gastanes said.
The event has multiple objectives, including showcasing the unique basketball skills of each player and fostering teamwork, community spirit, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.
Furthermore, separate opening programs are scheduled for each cluster. Cluster B (Northern Palawan Island Municipalities), featuring Coron, Culion, Busuanga, and Linapacan, will take place on November 13. Cluster C (Northern Palawan Mainland), comprising Araceli, Roxas, Dumaran, San Vicente, El Nido, and Taytay, will follow on November 20. Cluster D (Southern Palawan Mainland), including Aborlan, Narra, Quezon, Bataraza, Rizal, Brooke’s Point, and Sofronio Española, is set for November 21.
Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals, and Finals are scheduled for December.
The top team in Clusters A and B, the top two teams in Cluster C, and the top four teams in Cluster D will automatically advance to the Quarter Finals.
All the winners in the Quarter Finals will compete in the Semi-Finals. The remaining four teams in the Semis will vie for the Championship Game and Battle for 3rd and 4th place in the tournament.
