550 out of 600 or 90% of provincial inmates detained in Palawan Provincial Jail Management and Division (PJMD) are already vaccinated against COVID-19, according to PJMD Provincial Warden PCOL Gabriel Lopez (Ret,).
Lopez clarified that the remaining 50 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) have underlying comorbidities, reason why they haven’t received their vaccines yet.
He also said that so far, there have no recorded COVDI-19 positive cases among inmates yet.
“Laging naka-antabay ‘yung ating clinic, at nasa labas na rin naman ang Provincial Health Office. Nag-request din tayo sa korte kung mayroong kailangan dalhin na PDL sa mga ospital kung meron silang karamdaman,” Lopez said.
As of press time, the province, including the city of Puerto Princesa remains on Alert Level 3, reason why PJMD is continually monitoring the health status of all its inmates, according to Lopez.
Furthermore, PJMD decided to temporarily stop the visitation of relatives due to the recorded high cases of COVID-19 in the province and Puerto Princesa.
However, Lopez said that once cases of COVID-19 slopes down, visitation rights will resume in the facility.
PJMD targets to build its own Visitation Building as part of their efforts to continuously remain COVID-free and to protect PDL against the deadly virus.
Meanwhile, sanitization and disinfection methods of things brought by PDL visitors are also strictly enforced as additional method in making sure that inmates are far from the threat of COVID-19.
