The removal of no ‘face mask policy’ could be dropped by the last quarter of 2022, but there are still no concrete discussions about it.
Long as the government manages to fully vaccinate about 90-million Filipinos before the target date, then the no more face mask policy could be attained by the last quarter of the year, said by National Task Force against COVID-19 medical adviser, Dr. Ted Herbosa, on an earlier Laging Handa public briefing, today, February 16, 2022.
“By that time, kung 90 million ay fully vaccinated, that’s already 90% ng ating population,” he said.
“I-add mo pa diyan ‘yung mga nagka-COVID na binabakunahan so marami rami na rin ang may antibody at protection,” said Herbosa.
“Malamang matanggal nga ‘yan [masks] kung talagang protected na ang karamihan ng Pilipino,” said by the medical adviser.
This was Herbosa’s counter to an earlier statement by vaccine czar Sec Carlito Galvez Jr, declaring that the face mask removal would “likely” be possible by the end of the year.
“Palagay ko sa open air puwede na tayong hindi mag-mask kung sakaling malaki sa population ay fully vaccinated,” he said, also adding that there are a lot of factors to consider before doing the said move.
“Kailangan mag-ingat din talaga tayo para magsuot pa rin tayo ng mask sa mga enclosed spaces,” Herbosa said.
As of February 14, 2022, there have been 131.7 million shots against COVID-19 were given out to the public, about 61.1 million Filipinos, about 100,370 minors aged 5-11 years old that received their first dose.
However, at least 9.07 million individuals in the country have received their booster shots.
