Indigent senior citizens in Narra received their social pensions from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as their initial payouts kicked off on Friday, August 23.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) office in Narra reported that around 2,700 elderlies were entitled to claim their pension.
Lalaine Cubillas of the MSWD office said that each elderly pensioner received P6,000.
“Actually assistance nalang kami. Region na ang nagpi-payout sakanila pero hindi bale, good for one year na itong pension nila,” Cubillas said.
The social pension was received by 475 indigent senior citizens from Barangay Poblacion, 256 from Barangay Panacan I, 206 from Barangay Malinao, 196 from Barangay Princess Urduja, 188 from Barangay Antipuluan,181 from Barangay Aramaywan and 151 from Barangay Sandoval respectively.
The barangays mentioned are considered to be the biggest barangays in the municipality.
The town’s barangays were clustered into groups by the regional and municipal staff of DSWD. The payout took a total of three (3) days to complete, making sure each elder beneficiary has claimed her/his pension.
Lydia Tanjusay, an 80-year-old beneficiary, said that their local senior citizen chapter waited for months for the financial assistance.
“Matagal kaming nag-antay. Mabuti nga at dumating na din kasi malaking tulong din ito para sa gamot,” Tanjusay said.
