Residents who are solo parents and Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s) may receive monthly allowances and other benefits if the proposed ordinances of Narra councilor Christine Joy Mahilum granting these are passed.

Mahilum recently pushed two proposed ordinances before the Sangguniang Bayan which aim to give PWD members monthly allowance and benefits and other privileges for solo parents of the community.

The ordinance entitled “Alalay sa Saklay” which Mahilum intended for qualified PWDs will focus on members who belong to the low-income class of the municipality, those who are abondoned by immediate family members, abused, neglected, and those who need financial assistance to cover their medical needs and medicines.

The proposed “Solo Parent Ordinance” focuses on adding benefits and privileges to solo parents like basic educational services, death and burial assistance, livelihood assistance and employment assistance.

It also intends to create a Solo Parents Desk and Solo Parent Organization in the municipality.

The two proposed local laws were already brought up for public hearing and will be up for second hearing in the next Sangguniang Bayan session.

“Para sa mga kababayang PWDs na magkaroon ng monthly allowance. At Solo Parent Ordinance para naman sa pagkilala sa katatagan ng mga solo parent out there na bumabangon sa bawat araw para itaguyod ang pamilya. Kayo po ay makakapag avail ng anumang serbisyo o assistance mula sa pamahalaang lokal ng Narra,” Mahilum said.
