For more than 10 years, Taradungan Bridge along Tumarbong-Taradungan-Ilian-Capayas road in Roxas town was unpassable. In that span of one decade, individuals can still crossed through it traversing the ruins of an old Bailey, but not for vehicles.

This time, a concrete bridge will emerge replacing the old and unsafe structures.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 1ST District Engineering Office said that P 98.7 million has been allocated for the construction of concrete bridge in the area.

“Ngayon po ay masisimulan na dahil po sa tulong ng ating Congressman, ng ating mga senador, tapos na yong atin pong problema na matagal na po nating pinagtitiisan” Mayor Pedy Sabando said during the project’s groundbreaking ceremony recently.

The project is 34 kilometers from the town proper of Roxas.

The village chief, Cabase said the bridge was damaged in 2013 at the heights of typhoon Yolanda and tropical storm Zoraida. The provincial government repaired the damaged bridge, however in 2015, the structure completely collapsed and rendered unserviceable since then. Although individuals can still crossed the dilapidated structure, but it was unsafe for vehicles.

To still make good use of this bridge, local folks tried to repair it on their utilizing bamboos, sliced lumbers, and slabs so people can still traverse it.

Among those who graced the event were Congresswoman Rosalie Salvame, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Chief Operation Officer Mark Lapid, DPWH-1ST DEO District Engineer Rommel Aguirre, punong barangay Miguelito Cabate and barangay officials, among others.

The DPWH said that the project will be completed by 1st quarter of February 2025.
